Alicia’s advocacy is dedicated in loving memory to her mother, Esperanza A. Mascarenas, who was diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome in 1985. She still remembers the staggering fear and frustration they faced, dealing with a disease they knew nothing about. For 16 years she helped her mother through hospital visits, devastating symptoms and an agonizing lack of support within the healthcare system.
